At Daystar, your privacy is and always has been very important to us. We are committed to providing you with the best possible service while safeguarding your personal information. On January 1, 2004, the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) took effect for all commercial organizations in Canada. It helps balance the need for business to gather and use personal information with your right to privacy. Meeting PIPEDA compliance requirements has provided us with the opportunity to put policies and practices in place to formalize our commitment to you and further safeguard your privacy in accordance with the Act. As required by the legislation, Daystar has in place policies and procedures to effectively safeguard confidential information. These apply to all of the operating companies with the Daystar group, including Daystar Financial Group Inc., Daystar Financial Services Inc., Greenstone Financial Solutions Inc., Daystar Charter Financial Inc., Daystar Alberta Financial Inc., and Daystar Wealth Management Inc.
1. Accountability
Daystar has designated a Chief Privacy Officer ("CPO") who is ultimately responsible for personal information under the control of Daystar and is accountable for compliance with the terms and procedures of this Privacy Policy. Any individual who wishes to challenge Daystar's procedures or wishes to make a complaint about Daystar's personal-information handling practices should contact the CPO. Every complaint will be investigated and where a complaint is found to be justified, Daystar will take appropriate measures, including amending our policies and practices, when necessary.
2. Purpose of Collecting Personal Information
Daystar believes in collecting and using personal information responsibly and only for the purposes for which it was collected. Daystar will identify the purposes for which it collects personal information before or at the time the information is being obtained and will not use or disclose it for any purpose other than those for which it was collected.
Personal information is collected to ensure Daystar has all information necessary to:

* Establish and administer your account
* Provide all required tax reporting
* To verify your identity and protect you and Daystar against error and fraud
* To otherwise carry out normal business operations
3. Consent
Daystar's consent is form is contained in the New Client Application form.
A client may withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. The implications of withdrawal are set out in the applicable sections of the New Client Application Form.
4. Limiting Collection
Daystar collects personal information only to the extent necessary for the purposes identified above. The personal information is collected using only fair and lawful policies and procedures.
5. Limiting Use, Disclosure and Retention
Personal information will not be used or disclosed for purposes other than those for which it was collected, except with the consent of the individual or as required by law. Personal information will be retained only as long as necessary for the fulfillment of those purposes, and shall be destroyed in accordance with Daystar's Record Retention Policy.
6. Keeping Information Accurate
Daystar has a responsibility to ensure that all personal information on file is accurate, complete and up-to-date. Clients may, in writing, request that their personal information be amended as appropriate.
7. Safeguarding Personal Information
Security safeguards are in place to protect personal information against loss or theft, as well as unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, use, or modification regardless of the format in which it is held. Daystar's safeguards vary depending on the sensitivity of the personal information. The highest level of protection is given to the most sensitive personal information.
8. Openness
Daystar ensures that clients have access to information regarding the policies and practices used to manage their personal information. This information is readily available in variety of formats.
9. Access
Clients may request in writing access to their personal information. Daystar will inform the client whether the organization holds personal information and provide an account of the use that has been made of this information, as well as identify any third parties to which the information has been disclosed. When a client demonstrates the inaccuracy or incompleteness of personal information, the information will be amended as required.
